MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) - All this week, hundreds of teenage volunteers from other states are helping Monson families recover from last year's tornado.

On Tuesday, 22News caught up with one of the work teams, which has been rebuilding a shed destroyed by the twister near the Brimfield town line. Homeowner Richard Nawrocki told 22News, that he is grateful for the help

“It's been an ongoing effort for nearly a year now, just repairing the house, working out in the yard. It's ongoing, but every bit helps and certainly this is great for us,” Nawrocki said.

The young volunteers belong to Work Camp ; a faith based national organization from Colorado. They are connected with a similar Monson volunteer group called Nomads of Hope .

Nomads of Hope Co-Director Lisa Shorette told 22News that the help from Work Camp has really made a difference for town residents.

“It's been a wonderful time to have this group being willing to come in and help us, not only anybody who was in the tornado but our elderly, and low income, and families that just need that extra help,” Shorette said.

Work Camp volunteer Alaina Fennell of Old Holland Township, New Jersey told 22News the experience of helping others gives her and others a beautiful feeling.

“We feel awesome. I know our work crew is happy to be here happy to help,” she said.

The Work Camp crew members, numbering 319, will leave western Massachusetts Friday after having worked on dozens of repair projects in this tornado-damaged town.
