SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Former Springfield Mayor Michael Albano is an elected official yet again, after winning a seat on the Massachusetts’ Governor’s Council.

Albano, a Democrat who now lives in Longmeadow, defeated Holyoke Veterans Agent Michael Franco, who has sought the seat in the last four elections.

With 73% of precincts reporting, Albano was leading Franco, with 161,032 votes, or 67%, to 78,655 or 33%.

Albano served as Mayor of Springfield from 1996 to 2004.

The Governor’s Council (also known as the Executive Council) votes on the Governor’s nominees for the judiciary.
