SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Joseph Conant was officially sworn in today as Springfield’s fire commissioner.
Conant's wife, Kimberly performed the honors of pinning the commissioner's badge on her husband. Conant had been appointed acting commissioner last year. Conant's father was a Springfield firefighter.
He told 22News he's embracing modern technology to help keep the citizens safe.
“I can see us growing, moving forward, progressing there, a lot of new technology, a lot of new training,” Contant told 22News.
Massachusetts Fire Marshall Stephen Coan along with a number of western Massachusetts fire chiefs attended Conant's swearing in ceremony.
