Concern growing over the rising price of gas

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's becoming more difficult by the day to watch your gas tank go to empty. The average price for a gallon of gasoline increased more than 40 cents in the past month.

“Yep, it's gone up quite a bit since, I don't know last week,” said Ed Traynor from Vermont.

And in the last week, the national average jumped 12 cents, starting up new concern as some begin to try and save anyway they can.

For Frank Ravosa that means driving to Springfield from his home in Connecticut and using any discounts he can find.

“You have to, I'm on disability so I don't have the opportunities that I used to have so I have to skrimp, so that's why I'm here,” said Frank Ravosa of Enfield, Conn.

Demand is normally lower in February so with gas prices already this high, this could be a bad sign of things to come.

An analyst with GasBuddy.com says gas prices rise anywhere from 40 to 60 cents a gallon in late March through early May.

So if that happens this year, there's concern the national average will go well over $4 a gallon.

This news comes during a popular time to buy a car, Presidents’ Day Weekend and it has some people thinking about fuel efficiency.

“Absolutely, my next car is going to be a hybrid or electric,” said Taz Hussain who is visiting from Texas.

This is the time when the oil companies start making their summer blend of gas that brings the price up at the pump but no one can be certain how high it will go.
