WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Traffic at the Big E is a necessary evil when crowds are expected to surpass 1.2 million people over the 17 days in West Springfield.

However, Gerard Kiernan, Director of Operations for the Eastern States Exposition, said that traffic should flow smoothly without construction this year.

"All the bridge work that was going on last year those projects have been completed. So I'm very confident that people coming to the exposition will notice the great changes and coming to the Big E will be unencumbered by construction," said Kiernan.

He also said that there have been no changes in funding for traffic patrols, and police presence as it pertains to traffic will be the same as every year.

The gates of the Big E will open up at 8:00 Friday morning.

For information on parking and the shuttle bus service here, you can visit the Big E's website at thebige.com.
