WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Shouting from the rooftops to attract attention. Many heard the call Saturday to raise money for the Special Olympics.

West Springfield police officer Erica Ireland has spent a lot of time on the Walmart roof in Westfield. She's passionate about helping raise money for the Special Olympics, and she wants everyone to know it.

“We've been doing this because of the great charity,” Ireland told 22News. “They don't get a lot of grants from the government. So all the money is raised through the organizations such as the torch run program.”

Officer Ireland spent ten hours on the Walmart roof attracting customers’ attention and convincing them to give to help the Special Olympics.

She’s no newcomer to this commitment. This is her sixth year of being the “Cop on Top”.
