PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - A crash involving a car and a tractor trailer that backed up traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike for hours has been cleared.
The crash happened early Thursday afternoon on the westbound side of the Pike near the Exit 8 ramp in Palmer. Traffic was backed-up for miles.
Sgt. Courtois of the Massachusetts State Police told 22News that the car was badly damaged, and that there was a large amount of debris on the road.
Police had initially closed both travel lanes, with cars only getting by on the median strip, but the Massachusetts Department of Transportation tweeted just after 3:00 that they re-opened the left-hand lane. By 4:00 they tweeted that the entire roadway had re-opened.
There are no reports of injuries at this time.
