Cruise nightmare giving some second thoughts

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The misery is finally over for the 4,000-plus people that were stuck on a disabled cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico, but the incident may be giving people second thoughts about taking a sea cruise.

The Carnival Triumph docked late Thursday in Mobile, Alabama , after a painfully slow approach that took most of the day. Passengers raucously cheered after days of what they described as overflowing toilets, food shortages and foul odors.

Back here in western Massachusetts, some people told us that they are a little hesitant about booking that next cruise, especially considering how this is one of several major incidents involving a cruise line over the past few years.

“When you hear about the reports in stories like this, it kind of gives you a second thought. 'Do I want to do this?' and 'What if t was me?’,” Darryl Bonner of Los Angeles said.

Passengers who were stuck on the Triumph will be refunded the cost of the trip, be given discounts on future cruises, and $500 in additional compensation.
