SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Democratic State Rep. Sean Curran will return to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, after defeating independent candidate Robert Underwood.

With 94% of precincts reporting, Curran had 11,113 votes, or 85%, to Underwood's 1,955 or 15%.

Curran will be serving in his 5th term in this Springfield-based district, which includes portions of Liberty Heights, East Springfield, Pine Point, Indian Orchard, Boston Road, and Sixteen Acres, as well as a single precinct in Chicopee Falls. In September, he beat back a primary challenge from fellow Democrat Joseph Fountain.

Underwood ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2004, 2006, and 2010.
