SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society celebrated a milestone Monday.

Five month old Pugsly was 29,000th animal to be helped by the Dakin Community Spay/Neuter Clinic since the humane society opened in October 2009..

Spokeswoman Candy Lash told 22News Pugsly's surgery today was made possible thanks to a nearly $10,000 grant from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition as part of the "I'm Animal Friendly" license plate program.

"The Mass Animal Coalition distributes those funds that they receive from the animal friendly license plates throughout the Commonwealth, to humane organizations and animal control organizations across the state.  That money helps towards spay/neuter programs for those organizations," Lash told 22News.
