SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield police have ruled the death of a 20 year-old man, whose lifeless body was found in his home days after he had been stabbed, to be a homicide.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the death of 20 year-old Felix Laurent marks the 11th homicide of the year.
According to Delaney, Laurent was brought to Mercy Medical Center late on the night of November 2 by people who had seen him stumbling across Wilbraham Road near Eastern Avenue. Laurent had two stab wounds to the back, and told police that the attack on him had happened near the DeBerry School on Union Street.
Later that night, Laurent was transferred to Baystate Medical Center for further treatment, where he remained until being released around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon.
After 11:00 that night, Delaney says that police and an ambulance were called to Laurent’s Oak Grove Avenue home, where Laurent was found dead in his bed. Police were called by Laurent’s uncle, who had been taking care of him since his release from the hospital.
Police did not immediately rule on his cause of death, having his body taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Boston. On Friday, the Medical Examiner determined that it was indeed Laurent’s stab wounds that caused his death, making the case a homicide.
