SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Crews have begun demolishing vacant buildings on Locust Street in Springfield after a series of suspicious fires over the last week.

Firefighters have been called to the 200 block of Locust Street three times since last Tuesday.

Aide to the Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News the buildings have been empty for about a year and a half.

Leger says it appears that the fires were intentionally set... but investigators have not officially ruled arson as the cause.
