Documents released in alleged rape case

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - An Eastern Hampshire County Court Judge has released several court documents revealing more details in the case of an alleged rape on the UMass campus.

Several media outlets requested the courts release documents relating to the case, arguing that the alleged crime happened at a public university.

The case involves a freshman from UMass who says four Pittsfield teenagers raped her inside her dorm room on October 13th. In the court documents obtained by 22News, the victim says she was drunk before arriving at her dorm room and finding the four suspects. She says she continued to drink with them and smoke pot before the alleged crime happened.

UMass Police say three of the teens were signed into the residence hall by another student.

Lindsey Lowe, UMass sophomore, told 22News, “Alcohol was definitely a factor but I don't think that it was entirely her fault that she was drunk at the time, she just got caught in a bad situation.”

According to Sasha Rozemova, UMass sophomore, “Security is pretty much the same, except our RA had a talk with us so we were all notified about it.”

“I don't think that it's her fault,” said Rachel Danto, UMass sophomore. “I think that the people that signed the boys into the building shouldn't have done that because they probably didn't even know them.”

Bail was set at $10,000 for all four suspects; however, on Tuesday, a Hampshire County Superior Court Judge reduced Emmanuel Bile's bail to $3,500.
