SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to at least two-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to unarmed robbery of a Longmeadow bank last year.
Douglas Morse also pleaded guilty Thursday to theft of a car used in the March 24, 2012, robbery. He was also sentenced to two years' probation with random drug and alcohol testing. He gets credit for nearly a year he's been in jail.
Morse, the brother of Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, told the judge he has struggled with addiction for 10 years. His mother was in court to support him. The mayor has said he "will continue to be there for my brother."
Co-defendant 20-year-old Desiree Ferreira of Westfield guilty to the same charges and was sentenced to two to three years in prison with two years' probation.
