HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - On Wednesday, dozens of Holyoke business owners called for the Mount Tom Power Plant to be shut down.

Sixty-two business owners signed a petition, and teamed up with a national group called the Toxics Action Center . They claim the coal-burning plant pollutes the air in Holyoke.

“They are poisoning our water, they're poisoning our air, and there are so many children, especially in Holyoke, who have asthma,” Holyoke business owner Jose Bou said.

22News has a call in to the power plant's owner, GDF-Suez , but we are still waiting for comment.
