SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Multiple gunshot sounds, That's what one Springfield family woke up to early Sunday morning.
Springfield Police Captain Cheryl Claprood said what appeared to be a drive-by shooting happened at Central and Pine Streets at around 3 a.m.
Police initially responded to an area near Walnut and Central Streets, but police say the people involved somehow ended up in this parking lot. And the bullets struck the house.
The family did not want to talk on camera, but they did show us the bullet holes.
One of them was right next to their 12-year-old son's bed.
Then that same bullet went through another wall to the parents' bedroom, hitting the nightstand right next to their bed.
The family told 22News now they aren't sure how they'll sleep at night, but they are glad no one was hurt.
The incident has left many neighbors worried though about their safety.
Thelma Wills told 22News, “It's just that you go to sleep, and you feel unsafe. You would think that people would have respect for it because we live next door to a church, but they don't care. Bullets start flying, and they don't care who they hit.”
Many people said they hope police will now patrol the neighborhood more often.
Springfield Police are looking for a gray SUV Volvo that they believe was involved in this shooting.
