SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - On Friday, Ecuadorians gathered on Springfield's City Hall steps to celebrate their heritage.

Representatives of the Ecuadorian Heritage Celebration Committee and city officials raised a flag to commemorate Ecuador Independence Day.

Ceasar Gonzalez told 22News that he could not be more proud to watch the Ecuadorian flag be raised at City Hall.

“We are here to celebrate a day of our independence and I just feel proud we do it here in this county and be proud,” Gonzalez said.

Music, singing and dance from the South American country was also celebrated on the City Hall steps Friday.

Ecuador declared its independence from Spain on August 10, 1809.
