SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield Police are investigating a home invasion in the city's Bay section , where an elderly man was stabbed more than a dozen times.

It all happened just before 9:00PM Thursday inside 92 College Street.

Lt. Alberto Ayala told 22News that they received a 911 call from the victim's daughter. When police arrived, they found her father, a 73 year old man, bloodied. He was rushed to Baystate Medical Center with at least 18 stab wounds. He is expected to survive.

Lt. Ayala said that more than one man broke down the rear door of the home and forced their way inside. Ayala says that one of the man had a knife, while the other implied that he had a gun. They confronted the elderly man, and after a struggle, stole a large amount of money.

The name of the victim is not being released.
