CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Homeless people in Chicopee will now have better access to medical services.
Sunday was dedication day for the Elms College care van; it's a converted camper that will be a clinic on wheels. The care van will reach out to homeless in the community to provide them with basic medical services.
Brother Michael Duffy, a Franciscan Friar and a member of the college's nursing faculty, told 22News, they will go wherever they need to go to help.
“There's a whole bunch of people in a whole other world that lives under the 391 bridge in door frames and housing in cars that won't go to a standard place,” said Brother Duffy.
Elms College nursing students will provide the homeless medical services ranging from taking their blood pressure to dressing their wounds.
