Facebook privacy hoax worries users

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Facebook status that went viral on many user accounts this week has been debunked as a hoax.

The message popped up on millions of minifeeds over the weekend. Users were warned that if they did not copy and paste the message into their own statuses, their Facebook accounts would not be protected or copyrighted.

Many users said that if this rumor was true, they would immediately close their accounts.

“If that was to ever happen, I would just delete my Facebook, because obviously I don't want to post stuff that is going to be shared with the world,” Sarah Verteramo of East Longmeadow said. “I post stuff to share with my friends and my family, nobody else.”

In a statement, Facebook said users who post content are the ones who own the content and control how it is shared.
