Family moves into their new home

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Sunday marked a dream come true for Springfield tornado victim Jose Ferreira. The twister destroyed his home on June first and on Sunday he moved into his new home.

What a difference seven months have meant in the life of Jose Ferreira and his family. Ferriera proudly unlocked the door to their new home near Island Pond Road. It's where their former home was destroyed by the tornado last June.

“There was a lot of mixed emotions you don't know what you're going to do what's going to happen? I know we had insurance but you don't know if they'll take care of things. I'm blessed and I'm fortunate and I can say that everything turned out well for me,” said Jose Ferreira.

22News followed the construction progress with Ferreira who developed a strong bond with his builder Anthony Carnevale, who can't forget the tornado's destructive force.

“Half the house was gone and we looked around the whole neighborhood, it was devastated. Houses were ripped apart, trees were all over the ground, and Jose slowly had a vision of how we put it together and before you knew it, he have the end result ,” said Anthony Carvevale, the owner of A.C. Homebuilders.

But many scars still remain in Springfield, West Springfield, Monson, Brimfield and
the communities where the June First Tornado destroyed so many homes and shattered so many lives.

Hopefully in due time we'll be able to tell you about more victims like Jose Ferreira, whose dreams eventually overshadowed their nightmares.
