SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Disaster Relief Team from the Pioneer Valley Red Cross helped eight Springfield fire victims including two children get on with their lives.

The eight lost everything they owned when a fire destroyed their apartments at 386 Franklin Street in the Liberty Heights neighborhood early Sunday morning.

When people are burned out of their homes, the Disaster Relief Team provides them with food and clothing and a temporary place to live.

They had all been asleep when someone noticed the house was on fire. That was shortly after four o'clock in the morning.

Fortunately all the people who had lived in the building got out safely.
