SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two Springfield firefighters were honored Wednesday morning for risking their lives to save a man from his burning home.

Lt. James Leger and Firefighter Jose Marquez received commendations from Mayor Domenic Sarno and Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant.

The firefighters worked to save a man from his home on Cass Street in August.

The man was trapped on the third floor and had to be pulled to safety out a window.

Jose Marquez told 22News, “I started rushing towards the house, I ended up getting my knee injured and my wrist injured, but I wasn't concerned about myself, I was concerned about the guy on the third floor. It's not a regular job for me, it's my whole life."

The man they saved was not seriously injured.
