Chicopee Police driving by the neighborhood first saw the smoke and flames around 4:30pm. Everyone that was home in the three floor, six family home got out safely.

Firefighters believe it started on the rear porch on the third floor. A neighbor who lives behind the home said it all so quickly.

“I was coming home from picking up my children. I got halfway up the street. Next thing I see a big cloud of smoke. I thought it was my house until I got close enough. The backs of our houses are all melted. I guess apparently we can go in,” said Craig Kelly.

Chicopee Police blocked off Nassau, Gratton, Chicopee and Meadow Streets while they were putting out the fire.
