AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - A trip to Africa inspired a local church to open up a free medical clinic in Agawam.
The New Covenant Free Clinic is open the first Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. It's being co-sponsored by the New Covenant community services and Bethany Assembly of God.
A staff of licensed medical workers are volunteering their time to help those who cannot afford the care they need. Recently the staff treated a person the turned out to have a serious illness and was unaware.
Executive Pastor Tim Reed told 22News, "Here's a person that could not afford to go to a primary care physician. They came to the free clinic and they were able to get diagnosed and treated to the best of our ability, or at least get plugged into a course of treatment."
The clinic is at the Bethany Assembly of God on Main Street. It is confidential and open to people 18 and over.
