SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) - A family in Southwick is helping raise awareness about Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
S.M.A. is the number one genetic killer of infants under two years old.
Family, friends and supporters gathered at the Cove Banquet Hall, for a night of dancing, raffles and dinner all to raise funds and awareness in the community about the disease.
Kelly Clendenin started the " Victory for Violet" fundraiser after she lost her daughter Violet to the disease.
“One in forty carries the gene. It’s as easy as a cheek swap to find out if you carry the gene. It’s eighty five percent preventable of a disease,” said Clendenin.
All proceeds from the benefit go to families of S.M.A. Clendenin told 22news their goal was to raise $2,500.
