WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield police officer Jose Torres will be laid to rest on Tuesday. Officer Torres suddenly lost his life while on a construction detail Thursday morning.
Calling hours are between 2pm and 8pm at Firtion Adams Funeral Home in Westfield on Monday.
Friday, the outpouring of support continued for Westfield's fallen officer.
"It's just a shock to everyone, I didn't know the person or the policeman personally, but any loss is great it's a tragic loss for the city", says Southwick's Irene Kmiecik.
Outside the police station, flowers, a lit candle, a ballon and a sign that read "God bless Officer Torres thank you for all you gave to Westfield." Officer Torres served 27 years in the Westfield police department."
"We feel really sorry for his family and the community, I've met him quite a few times when I was working as a sales person", says Blanford's Donna Gaj.
Officer Torres seemed to leave a good impression with everyone he met.
"He was always smiling and very positive", says Gaj.
An OSHA representative told 22News the accident investigation could take up to six months before they come to any conclusion.
The funeral for Officer Torres will be held in Devers Auditorium at Westfield State University on Tuesday at 11am. A police procession down Court Street and burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
