Gas prices back on the rise

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It seems like fueling up for that road trip is getting less bearable as the summer wears on. Gas prices are creeping back up, and it could get worse.

The average price of gasoline in Massachusetts is 3.58 -- twelve cents above the national average.

Overall, gas prices are up 11-cents a gallon from the start of July, and up 40-cents-a-gallon since late June.

Drivers could see another nickel or dime hike in the next few weeks, but it may not always be that way. President of Strategic Energy and Economic Research Michael Lynch told 22News economic weakness coupled with a larger supply of crude oil could potentially bring the cost of gas down to three dollars a gallon.

He also said he doesn't believe gas prices will stay above three dollars forever. He says we could see gas prices as low as 2 dollars some time in the next 3 to five years.
