Gas prices continue to rise

By May prices could rise by 60 cents

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Gas prices rose 19 cents a gallon in the last month, but new reports say it could go up by another 60 cents or more by May.

Experts say they expect gas prices to peak at four dollars and five cents by Memorial Day because of higher demand and increasing tensions in the Middle East.

Some residents in Western Massachusetts say if the gas price does increase as expected, they'll have to look for alternatives to driving.

“Times are tough and you know it's really expensive as it is so I don't think anybody's looking forward to it going up,” Anthony Gentile told 22news.

“I'm actually working on centralizing my life into one area so that I can take my bike to work, to the grocery store, to the farms where I pick up my food and it's mostly because I just can't afford the gas,” said Christopher Poulin.

The report said rising prices is an annual spring ritual because of seasonal demand.
