Gas prices expected to decline slowly

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Many people easily spend more than $50 every time they fill up their tanks, but here's the good news. Drivers should see a gradual decline in prices over the next few months.

Experts had predicted that we would see a drastic drop after Labor Day.

Typically prices begin to drop in the fall as suppliers start selling cheaper winter blends of fuel. During the summer months they sell more expensive blends to help reduce pollution. However, that's not the case right now.

Many refineries had to shut down recently because of Hurricane Isaac. When the storm hit the Gulf Coast, refineries in that area had to stop their production.

Right now the state average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.89 according to AAA.
