WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Drivers braced for the worst, but many of us are pleasantly surprised with the latest gas price trends.
Hurricane Sandy did leave quite a bit of damage. More than half of the gas stations in New Jersey and on New York's Long Island aren't open. Six East Coast refineries are slowly resuming production.
But the prices we are seeing up and down the East Coast surprised many people.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Springfield area is $3.67.
However, many gas stations are boasting prices lower than 3.67.
According to Triple A, prices in October declined at the fastest speed in nearly four years.
Of course, compared to 2011, we are still seeing record high prices, but experts predict that prices will continue to drop in November, assuming a smooth restart to production following Hurricane Sandy.
And the 22News Pump Price Patrol is working for you with a look at some of the area' lowest gas prices.
A gallon of regular gas costs $3.48 at Racing Mart at Main and Cabot Streets in Holyoke.
$3.49 at Shell at Riverdale Street and Highland Avenue in West Springfield.
And $3.56 at Racing Mart at the intersection of St. James Ave. and Carew Street in Springfield.
