Gas prices surge past $3.00 per gallon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Gas prices are on the rise and many stations are hitting the dreaded 3 dollar mark.

The average price of gas in Springfield is still around $2.93, but it's climbing. One month ago the average price of unleaded in Springfield was 15 cents lower.

This trend upward is making residents nervous especially as during the holidays. "It's been a while since I've seen it over $3.00 which is kind of crazy that you know to fill up is like 40 bucks for me now," said Fallon Harmon.

Right now the national average for unleaded gas stands at $2.88.
