SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Now that Labor Day has come and gone and summer is unofficially over, drivers are hoping gas prices will drop.

So far, that’s not happening.

AAA of Pioneer Valley shows that the average price of a gallon of regular gas right now is $3.77, that’s up a penny from last week.

Bob Suse of Springfield said, “It’s getting worse, it was down quite a bit then all of a sudden it pops up. If it goes down it goes down a penny or two if it goes up, it goes up 10, 15 cents.”

Still, analysts say gas prices shot up after Hurricane Isaac shut down refineries along the Gulf Coast. Now that those refineries are back up and running, they predict prices will drop again.

Relief can’t come soon enough for people like Sixto Gonzales of Springfield.

He told 22News, “We don’t make much money. A person like me that only makes $10 an hour and then you have to spend $50 on gas, it makes it hard.”
