EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A 14 year-old girl is safe after police say she hid in a closet while an intruder broke into her home.

East Longmeadow Police Sgt. Patrick Manley told 22News that around 10:00 A.M., the girl living at a house on Mapleshade Avenue heard someone enter her home, and she ran upstairs into her parent’s closet, where she called police.

Officers arrived at the home and found Victor Figueroa, 29, of Springfield, hiding in another one of the home’s closets. He was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, putting a person in fear, and larceny. He was found with a cell phone and a pair of earrings, Manley said.

Manley said that there was a reported second suspect, a Hispanic man seen on a chrome bicycle, but police are not sure if this is the case.

Peggy Pennington of East Longmeadow said that this could have happened anywhere.

"It could have been any house in broad daylight, and I think that I'm glad they caught them or at least one of them and i hope they get the other one," Pennington said.

No one was hurt.
