SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Children often shy sway from competing in sports simply because they lack confidence.

Dozens of girls took part in the annual Springfield College National Girls and Women Sports Day.

Building confidence to play sports is what the program is all about.

“It gives the girls confidence they're not playing with boys, it's a girl's program starting them off young before the sixth grade, gives them confidence they can try different sports,” said Kiki Jacobs of Springfield College.

“I think it's so much fun, so interesting we play these sports, I actually now want to plat a few sports,” said Alexia Rodrigue, a 5th grader at the Milton Bradley School.

It's been ten years now since Springfield College began taking part in the confidence building sports day for girls.
