Gov. Patrick’s take on potential spending cuts

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - We're now less than two days away from a massive, across the board spending cut.

The cuts will carve 85 billion dollars from spending through September. Economists warn this could slow an already struggling economy.

Governor Deval Patrick told 22News Wednesday there would be a considerable impact felt in Massachusetts. Patrick said there are still a lot of unanswered questions if the sequester goes into effect, which he hopes is not the case.

According to the Governor, “I am hopeful that cooler heads will prevail and the Republican opposition in the House in particular to a balanced approach, the same balanced approach ordinary citizens all across the country want, will take over.”

If Congress does not act by March 1st, Massachusetts could lose more than 60,000 jobs.
