SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Justice for Trayvon; that's what Trayvon Martin's family is asking federal officials to consider after Martin's shooting death last month.
Attorneys for both the Martin family and the self-appointed neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, met last Thursday with federal and local officials. Daryl Parks, who is representing the Martin family, reportedly told board members of the National Association of Black Journalists on Saturday.
This comes after President Obama demanded a full investigation into the death of the unarmed 17-year-old who was allegedly shot by George Zimmerman last February in Florida. The family's attorney says the meeting's purpose was served as the family made their case arguments and felt that the U.S Justice Department was very "committed." What federal officials say is going to be a challenge, proving that it was a hate crime.
The attorney representing the neighborhood captain involved in the death says his client has been pegged as a racist and claims Zimmerman acted in self defense. A grand jury is scheduled to meet next month to weigh the evidence brought up against the alleged shooter.
