GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Greenfield Police detectives believe the same man who robbed the Federal Street branch of the Greenfield Cooperative Bank Wednesday may have robbed the same TD Bank branch twice in the last four weeks.
Greenfield Police Detective Lieutenant Dan McCarthy told 22News that a drive-through customer, watching through a window, saw the masked suspect pointing a semi-automatic pistol at a bank teller before walking out of the bank.
Lt. McCarthy said the woman followed the suspect as he walked to a parking lot and got into a car and drove away. The woman called police as she was following the suspect's vehicle, and provided the license plate number.
"She gave us an awesome lead," McCarthy told 22News. "We made an ID."
McCarthy said they "know who he is," and they are "actively looking for him in conjunction with Massachusetts State Police. We are trying to connect him to the two previous TD Bank robberies, and it seems promising."
McCarthy told 22News that the suspect used the same disguise in all three robberies. He wore a hoodie sweatshirt, a ski mask and dark sunglasses. He also used a pistol in the Greenfield Cooperative Bank robbery, as well as the TD Bank heists February 17 and March 3 .
McCarthy said, "the suspect has resided in Greenfield, but he's on the run now."
"We have an alert to be on the lookout for him."
