WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The casino applicants in western Massachusetts not only have to win over their host community, but also surrounding cities and towns.
Hard Rock International plans to build a 500 to 800 million dollar casino on the grounds of the Eastern State Exposition in West Springfield.
A representative from the Mass Gaming Commission , John Ziemba, told West Springfield Town Council's casino mitigation committee, Wednesday night, developers have to consider the entire region.
According to Ziemba, "A host community agreement and a referendum is a mandatory item before anything reaches the commission, but applicants are also asked to sign surrounding community agreements that address impacts in surrounding communities.”
The gaming commission has a meeting planned for Thursday, February 28, to discuss how they plan to define a surrounding community.
