SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Some racing enthusiasts put away their running shoes during the winter, but not the Greater Springfield Harriers.

Their running season at Forest Park starts in December and runs right through February. Saturday marked the start of the Harriers 32nd season of cold weather running.

Long time Harrier, Peter Vangsness told 22News, they're proud never to have canceled a race before due to the weather.

“We run in every weather, so if it's snowing we're out here. And it's hard to argue that we can pass a sanity test, but we always get a few weather races every year at the beginning or at the end of the year,” said Peter Vangsness.

Harrier Kirstin Lane from Agawam told 22News, it's nice to start their 5 and 10 K racing season on dry pavement instead of snow.
