Hiker recovering in hospital after being lost for hours

RUSSELL, Mass. (WWLP) - A man who was missing for hours on a mountain in Russell is recovering in the hospital from hypothermia.

State Trooper Nicole Morrell told 22News that the man, who is in his 20’s, got lost on a mountain near Valley View Avenue around 5:30 P.M.

State police deployed dogs and a helicopter in their efforts to find him. Temperatures had dropped below freezing, and when the man was found around 10:00, he was suffering from hypothermia.

He was taken to Noble Hospital in Westfield, and is expected to survive.
