CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - NBC News is teaming up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday to support our local veterans during a job fair called 'Hiring Our Heroes."
The goal is to get unemployed local veterans back on a payroll.
The job fair starts at 10a.m. Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus on Memorial Drive in Chicopee.
It's free. Veterans are asked only to bring a resume and a copy of your military release form.
The unemployment epidemic for veterans is very serious---
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, each year, 32,000 new veterans will be unemployed.
The total number right now is about 1-million. And the rate of unemployment for veterans is twice the rate of non-vets.
When you come to the fair, you'll be able to meet with prospective employers directly and there's also a Hero2Hired Mobile Command Van that's basically a one-stop-shop for everything you'll need to find a job.
The job fair will end at 1p.m.
