Hollywood makes changes after Newtown

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Last Friday's massacre in Newtown, Connecticut has left Americans perplexed as to what would drive someone to do such a thing.

"There probably is too much violence in this country--especially in things we expose our kids to; and they probably do become a little less sensitive to it", said Erin Sjostorm of Longmeadow.

Some parents have been blaming it on the violence in our culture, which is why the TV and movie industry is making some temporary changes.

This recent tragedy has compelled Hollywood to: swap programs, air emotional specials in place of daytime entertainment and air disclaimers before violent shows. A number of movie premieres have even been canceled or postponed. This includes Tom Cruise's violent new blockbuster, "Jack Reacher", and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained".

Many say they understand this time-sensitive move, but believe it's not an effective preventative measure.

"I don't think delaying [TV shows and movies], is going to have any real impact; I think it's a much bigger issue than that", said John Anderson.

An issue that has been stemming back to the nationwide gun control debate.

The Newtown Massacre has also has had an effect on the music industry. TMZ reports that Ke$ha's new chart-topper, "Die Young", has been removed from radio station playlists across the U.S.
