HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Two Special Olympic Athletes from Holyoke received hometown recognition Friday night.

Alyssa Neil and Keith Roberts recently won the silver and gold medals in speed skating at the 2013 Special Olympics International Winter Games in South Korea.

They proudly showed off their medals at Friday’s inaugural bash for Holyoke State Representative Aaron Vega.

Both athletes told 22News hard work pays off.

“I skated my hardest I came up from 8th from fourth from second in my division,” Silver Medalist Alyssa Neil said.

A portion of the proceeds collected will be donated to the local Special Olympics organization to support the efforts of other local athletes.
