WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The parent company of the HomeTown Buffet restaurants has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

As part of the reorganization, Buffets Incorporated has closed 81 restaurants, including the one in the Riverdale Plaza in West Springfield.

Patrons told 22News they were shocked and disappointed to hear the restaurant had closed.

"Well we saw it dark and I said oh my goodness, I can't believe it because we've always come here and it's very good," said Sally Maciolek.

"We always went here as a family thing and now it's closed," said Colby Macznick, "this has too many memories."

This is the second time in four years Buffets Incorporated has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
