WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 22News follow up now on what's turned out to be a deadly early morning house fire in Westfield.

An elderly man has died after being pulled from his burning home this morning.

A neighbor saw the Noble Avenue house on fire early Monday and called for help.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach him the 92 year old man trapped on the second floor.

Westfield Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Kane told 22News the victim died at the hospital.

Deputy Chief Kane said investigators believe the fire started accidentally in the basement near an oil-fired furnace.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office and the District Attorney's Office plan to return to the burned-out house Tuesday morning.
