CHICOPEE/HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Despite the wet weather, there was definitely some of the holiday spirit in the air in Chicopee and Holyoke

Quite a few streets downtown were closed Friday night as hundreds of people gathered in front of Chicopee City Hall for the Christmas tree lighting.
 
The Mayor Mike Bissonette told 22News this is one of the parts about his job that he really enjoys. "It's for the kids, that's why we do it. It's also something special for the kids inside all of us."
 
They likewise turned half of Holyoke's High Street into a pedestrian way. And a place for a horse-drawn wagon to carry kids up and down the street.
   
Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer and frosty the snow man were on hand.
