CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Tens of thousands of internet users, who didn't check their computers for malware on Sunday before midnight, may not be able to log-on to the internet Monday.
That's because their computers are infected with a virus that's gone unnoticed for almost a year.
Last Fall, six Estonians were charged with corrupting 4 million computers worldwide with malware. That virus hijacked the computer, forcing it to use internet servers that usually directed users to sites they may not have meant to go to.
After the scammers were caught, the FBI took over their servers allowing users to surf without issues for months. But after numerous warnings, the FBI disconnected an estimated 45,000 infected computers at midnight on Sunday.
So if you're having problems, experts recommend that you should call your internet service provider for help. You can also check to see if your computer is affected by logging-on to the DCWG website , and click "detect".
