New code of conduct for parents at sporting events

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Timothy Forbes of Springfield allegedly attacked a coach and bit off part of his ear after a basketball game last Friday.

The league's board is trying to figure out how to prevent incidents like this in the future.

The Catholic Youth Organization's board will implement a new rule, starting 2013.

All parents will have to sign a code of conduct form, promising good behavior at games, and there is no more three strikes rule either.

If you violate the code once, you're out. Starting now, there will be a strict bench rule as well.

CYO's athletic director, Hugo Mariani, told 22News, only one head coach, one assistant coach and one scorer will be allowed to sit on the bench with the players.

He said the alleged attacker, Timothy Forbes , was sitting on the bench before he attacked the winning team's coach because there were no more seats available in the Holy Name Gymnasium.

Forbes may not be allowed to attend his son's basketball games anymore. According to Hugo, “Once the judicial system goes through we'll make our decision, but I can't see it going anywhere but not coming to the games.”

The board will meet again early April to discuss how to deal with relatives, like grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends, if they come to games and misbehave.
