SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Former Springfield Mayor Michael Albano and Holyoke Veterans Agent Michael Franco will face-off in the November ballot to fill a seat on the Governor’s Council.

The two are vying to replace Greenfield Democrat Thomas Merrigan, who served three terms on the board, which votes on the governor’s judicial appointments.

With all precincts reporting, Albano received 43% of the Democratic primary vote, beating out Westfield School Committee Vice Chairman Kevin Sullivan, who received 41%. Chicopee City Councilor Gerry Roy finished third with 17%.

Franco won the Republican primary, defeating Washington Selectman Michael Case, 52% to 48%.
